Unmerging cells often leaves you with empty cells that break your data structure. This guide shows you how to unmerge and efficiently fill those gaps.

Highlight the range of merged cells you want to split.
Unmerge the cells
Go to the 'Home' tab, click the 'Merge & Center' button, and select 'Unmerge Cells'.
Select the blank cells
Press F5, click 'Special', select 'Blanks', and click 'OK'.
Fill the blanks
Type '=' followed by the cell reference above (e.g., =A2), then press Ctrl + Enter.
=A2Pressing Ctrl + Enter applies the formula to all selected blank cells simultaneously instead of just the active one.
